My name is Kevin Hoogeveen and I am the Co-Owner of @SigningAgents (along with my wife Pamela).
I have been in the mortgage and title insurance industry since 2000. I have worked in many different positions which has given me a wide range of knowledge and experience.
Some of those postions include:
Escrow Officer (Residential & Commerical)
Mortgage Loan Processor
Mortgage Loan Closer
Home Equity Manager/Underwriter
Vice-President/Mortgage Operations
Throughout these 20+ years I also did mobile loan closings on and off and got my wife started as a Signing Agent about 10 years ago.
At the beginning of 2020 I joined my wife in our local business, Fox Valley Mobile Notaries. As we got much busier and started working direct with a few local title companies, we transitioned the business into a national signing service and @SigningAgents was born.
One of our advantages that helped us keep and add more title and mortgage companies across the nation is that we had the knowledge and experience to shield our clients from a lot of questions and issues and work those out directly with our Signing Agents.
During this time we also did some live training with brand new notaries who wanted to become Signing Agents and those that had about 1 year of experience as a Signing Agents that wanted to fill in some gaps in their knowledge. I spent about a month writing a training manual that included a lot of real world knowledge that seemed to be lacking in other training that is out there.
Over the last 6 months I have been asked about mentorship and if I would ever consider being a mentor to them. I got enough of these questions to make me seriously think about it. In whatever postions I have held I have always enjoyed training. Some Signing Agents can contest that they have got me on the phone and a quick question turned into a mini training session. I always like to let you know why and not just the what. :)
The uncomfortable (for me) topic of charging for this service has to come up at this point. This business is our main source of income for our family and we are working on a couple of side projects as well as we beleive in having multiple streams of income. Because of this, my time is valuable and there a limited number of hours in a day. Anytime I spend on mentoring must also be a stream of income for the survival of my business and my family.
This was also part of my reluctance in starting this as I want to make sure if someone is paying me for this, they need to be able to get a return on their investment. That is a lot of pressure and responsibility I take very seriously.
